Monthly summer getaways?

*Assume everything aligns perfectly with budget/schedules/desire

My DH and I have the ability to take three smaller (4-5night) vacation “getaways” this summer. We have one planned for each month the kids aren’t in school. We just returned from the longest of the trips a couple weeks ago, and will be leaving town again in about a week.

You would not believe the number of people who keep telling us they would find this stressful or more trouble than it’s worth. The funny thing is, two of these naysaying friends are out of town at least once a month or more for travel sports during the school year. Maybe they feel differently because theirs are necessity-driven and not voluntary? (Although there is a level of discretion involved in opting in to travel sports.)

We are having the best summer ever, which begs the question, are we truly crazy?

The only crazy part is expecting everyone to enjoy the same things you do.

I'm glad you're having a great summer! I would rather spend 2+ weeks on a long vacation and stay home the rest, but splitting it up into 3 mini vacations is lovely too.

Sounds fine to me but my approach is similar because summer long weekends are the best way to maximize my limited vacation + my spouse's academic schedule. This year we didn't manage to plan a long distance trip so we are just returning from a week in the Finger Lakes, spending a long weekend in Laurel Highlands, and still deciding whether the last trip will be camping or NYC (very different vibes!)

I don't think that's strange. Some years we do one long multi-week trip; other years we've done a couple shorter ones that are closer to home. Normally depends on if we did big trips over the holidays or spring break.

Traveling for kids sports is totally different because you are normally told where to stay/eat and are on the team's schedule. There's no real choice and no real planning is needed.
