NYC in summer or Thanksgiving?

That's the question! We want to take the kids for a long weekend to visit relatives and see some sights. Looks like there are a few hotel options within budget in either late July or Thanksgiving weekend.

I would like to do some outdoor stuff (Central Park, Statue of Liberty), as well as of course walking and subway. Summer will be prettier but also very hot. Not interested in parades and massive crowds. Which would you recommend?

If you celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving weekend would be best. Most places are already decorated for the holidays and it's just magical. Plus, it isn't terribly cold around that time. You'll find crowds in NYC any time of year.

Absolutely Thanksgiving, and I don't celebrate Christmas. Summer is so crowded with tourists and SO hot.

Definitely Thanksgiving. The summers are smelly in NYC (drains) and there are so many tourists / people trying to rip off tourists - aka you.

Thanksgiving. It will be crowded and potentially cold but NYC is tough in the heat. Book any tickets you can in advance.

Thanksgiving has the Macy's parade

Thanksgiving, not July- it is just too hot.
