I am home alone with 2 young kids; my DH is out of town and I think there is a mouse in my dishwasher. I hear squeaking and something moving. Are there 24 hour exterminators who would come out this late? I reached out to a guy who does home repairs for us but have not heard back. What would you do? |
Are you sure it isn't just dishwasher parts rubbing up against something? |
Honestly, I’d probably let him die in there, then dispose of him promptly, then run a bleach cycle. The main question is, how did he get IN there. Could he actually be BEHIND the dishwasher? |
Do you think it's behind the machine or inside? If it's inside, I'd wash the dishes by hand until it gets out. Maybe you can try opening the filter to see if it's there. Can you access any other part of your washer? |
Don't worry. It can't do you much harm. No one will be able to deal with it before tomorrow anyway. If it were me I would go to Home Depot tomorrow morning to get a mouse trap or bait or something like that. |
We had this when I was growing up. I would always turn the dishwasher on for 10 seconds before opening the door. I had forgotten all about that. It always worked short term. |
1. It's likely behind the machine.
2. If it's inside, do NOT risk drowning it with a cycle, it will rot while you're trying to get it out. 3. The easiest way to get it out is by luring it out with food. It won't want to come out while you're all milling about. Set out a nice dish of peanut butter and cheese next to the open dishwasher and go to sleep. Tomorrow I bet the mouse will have left the dishwasher. 4. It's best that it's out loose elsewhere in the house than in your dishwasher. Tomorrow you can go out and buy a trap if you want. |
There are mice in your house. Not one, but multiple. They roll in gangs. If it’s in or around the dishwasher then it has access to your walls. You can try to set out mice traps yourself or you can call a professional. Look for droppings around your kitchen. They like to walk near baseboards and alongside walls, they have poor eye sight, so they use it as a guide. So be sure to put traps in corners or alongside walls. You don’t need your husband for this and the fact that you have two kids plays no part in your mice guest. |
Really unlikely you could hear a mouse through a closed dishwasher. It’s likely under or behind. Just set out a few snap traps this evening. |
+1 |
It’s a mouse. It’s not going to attack you. Pull up your big girl panties and deal with it.
I had a scorpion in my dishwasher last week (I live in AZ). Pounded the crap out of it with a meat mallot. |
Dishwashers strike again. Get that mold incubator out of there and put in a nice cabinet to store junk in instead. |
Oh, so that's how dishwashers work! |
Mice urinate and leave droppings throughout the house making the house nasty and unclean. There is a good chance there are many mice, not just one. If you don’t mind spending the money, call an exterminator. |
I would freak out too, OP! Record the sound and call the exterminator during regular hours and wash by hand until it's resolved. Agree with bleach cycle |
