My 12yr old DS has always played baseball. Does not like any other sports. He is average and enjoyed playing it but was not motivated to really work at it. Good baseball IQ, decent fielder, not super confident at the plate. We are playing in a summer league and he has LOVED it and is improving fast. He is now outside practicing all the time and begging my husband to take him to the cages.
Where do we go from here. Little league is over and I don’t think he good enough to play travel. If he did make a team, I’m sure he wouldn’t play. I assumed this last year of little league would be his last. |
Where are you located, OP?
Our little league is actually introducing a 13-14 year old division this coming year. I think if your league doesn’t have it, you can play for the closest one that does. There’s also babe Ruth nearby that has teen teams. There are all levels of travel ball, but the time for those tryouts was May, so you’re looking at next year. |
I disagree. There are many MD based teams holding tryouts now. There are GB groups for DMV area teams that have tryout announcements. |
I wouldn’t bother with travel, but definitely support his passion. |
Babe Ruth is the rec-level option for kids who have aged out of LL. Search for the BR league closest to you. |
Go for Babe Ruth. Our league kids can play up to age 16 I believe. My kids didn’t start baseball till 11. They love it but I am not able to do travel financially and they won’t make the middle or high school team so they will transition to Babe Ruth. |
Our son went to a small middle/high school and played for his school teams all the way through. It was awesome. |
