Thanksgiving Skiing?

| We unexpectedly have time free over Thanksgiving and are thinking of taking a ski trip. Tween DDs are iffy about the idea- they have been once or twice to our nearest ski hill but that's it. DH snowboards - blues and greens. I ski greens. We think it could be a great sport for our youngest (6 yo son with mild CP)- he is an avid mountain biker, can swim, etc. He has decent balance and loves to zoom. He feels bad that he has a "helper" in PE (adaptive PE teacher) and is feeling self conscious as the other boys get into sports. I think skiing could be great for him and help with his confidence. We certainly don't need any good skiing - just a handful of open beginner trails. We would also hope for an adaptive program. Ideally there would be something to do besides skiing, in case the snow is too bad or the kids don't love it. Anything that might fit the bill that time of year and would be relatively easy to get to from the midwest (not Chicago area)? |

I think Utah is a possibility, but not certain.

| It’s definitely possible on a good snow year. But you won’t know that until mid-Nov. Typically, way too early to ski. |

| Mont Tremblant usually officially opens on Thanksgiving and they will try to make snow but whether they actually have multiple trails open varies from year to year. You could try to make cancellable reservations |

I went to arapahoe basin before Thanksgiving once. It was okay.
But definitely no guarantee they’ll have blues and greens in good condition. |

Some Vermont mountains open before thanksgiving. But sometimes with 3 trails. |

Yes, dependent on the year. Last year Park City was not in good shape around Thanksgiving but that may have been due to the strike. |

| I have a friend who is a hardcore skier. He goes to banff over thanksgiving because he says it’s the most reliable snow early in the season. |

| With climate change there won’t be any snow in the US. And it’s way too early in the season anywhere. I would say try South America as the seasons are inverted. But that would be almost their summer. |

Is climate change impacting skiing? Of course. But the bolded is just wrong. Killington opened for the 2023 season on Nov 3. But making plans far out would be a mistake. |

| Maybe Lake Tahoe? I skied there over Thanksgiving many years ago, but the conditions weren’t great. It was mostly man-made snow. |

Anyone who tells you this is a good idea is wrong There might be minimal snow it’s miserable skiing Do something else do not waste you4 money Do not fly to Chicago or the Midwest for skiing who dies that? Utah, Colorado, Canada or Europe Especially since you are not skiers |
