Word on the street in my agency is that when the freeze is lifted, the chosen agencies (DHS, DOD, VA, etc.) will start hiring - and it will be a boom. Has anyone heard this? |
What about the “four sayonara - one hire” policy
Upon expiration of the hiring freeze and implementation of the hiring plan, agencies will be able to hire no more than one employee for every four employees that depart from federal service (with appropriate immigration, law enforcement, and public safety exceptions). Guess we will find out before 15 July |
They are trying to RIF people so I doubt there will be much hiring other than certain areas with shortages. Even if they did they would be mainly hiring through ICTAP and RPL. |
And the freeze could get extended. |
I think that’s likely |
They want to hire morons who pass their ideological purity test. Basically embed doge in the civil service, or what’s left of it |
If it an agency currently in a holding pattern for Rifs I assume they can’t hire. Just the favored agencies? |
Who is going to apply unless they buy into all the propaganda? I’ve long wanted to work for the federal govt but no longer can stomach it. |
Our FY25 personnel budget is maxed, with 40% going to DRPees; paying out annual leave balances for that same population with nuc our FY26 personnel budget. Here’s to FY27!!! |
If the Big Bill passes - I suspect the personnel budgets for the “chosen” agencies will see an expansion. |
I so believe this. We are self funded and used to have OT authorized when we fell behind on cases, but that ended pretty quickly in January. Now that it is summer and people are out on leave (or have quit), we are falling behind very quickly but there is no money in the budget to do anything about it. |
Stop trying to make "fetch" happen. |
My dh's agency seems desperate to hire to fill in the people who took DRP. Have been trying to get permission even before the hiring freeze ends. There's a lot of talk about re-hiring (in October) the people who took DRP so they essentially got ~7 months paid vacation.
Trump (Musk) wanted to make a big splash and say they were cutting jobs and they did. If they hire people back 7 months later, no one will really notice and they'll still be basking in the big splash. (And yes, perhaps they'll hiring them back with less job security, etc.) |
I wish we could hire. But we are an office where people can make way more in the private sector. We’ve lost about 30% of people by now, and in some specialties it up to 70%. I doubt they are going to find anyone who wants to take those jobs right now. |
I just heard the same rumor at my agency this week from someone in management.
I can’t wrap my head around why we just pushed so many people out and paid them to leave but then are going to hire and train new people. This cannot be efficient. |
