Anyone here WFH? I WFH and certain friends think this means I’m hanging out

Anonymous
‘Oh are you home? I’ll stop by for a coffee!’

I’m not against a little break, and wouldn’t mind meeting for a coffee, but often these friends just think they can pop by whenever because I’m ‘around’.

How do I educate them about WFH without snapping at them?

“Sorry, I’m in meetings all day!” Not hard.

Get off DCUM during work hours

What year is this from? When I started WFH in 2004 there was this mentality but in 2025?

+1 “Anyone here WFH?” Lol

I find it annoying, too. Someone stopped by the other day and called from my doorstep. I was in a zoom meeting and just texted “sorry in a meeting” and they stood out there for 15 mins. ?

Only people who can't draw boundaries have this problem. I WFH and have never had this happen. My friend WFH and is always complaining about this issue but she's opened the door in the past and hasn't been able to close it.

Yep, current. WFH in 2004 was not standard. These are creatives so they work with their hands and don’t understand that sitting on a couch is working

My friends don’t do this even though I’ve WFH for 7 years. Sometimes they ask if I’m free for lunch and join me if I take a dog walk break. Otherwise, they know it’s my workday.

Ha, my elderly neighbor does this. ‘I heard you talking inside so knew you were home…’ as he knocks and waits.

Don't answer the door while you're working.

I have found that people who don’t work in office settings regularly are like this. They see you sitting at your kitchen table and without shoes on, and assume you’re mostly hanging out. I can see why, I suppose.

I have had neighbors, contractors, extended family, and friends assume that I’m not doing much. My kids too

Well then that becomes weirder because often people can see or hear that you’re home, and you’ll then have to explain later why you were ignoring them. And they don’t fully get it, especially if they’re elderly

Are your friends all stuck in 1994? How, in this day and age, does anyone NOT understand the concept of working from home if they are of working age?
