Please fill in the blank with what you think when you read an answer like this.
It could be stupid answers: today's was: Question: Activities - did anyone's kid list that an impressive job was obtained on his/her own?" Answer: "Mine got his lifeguarding job on his own. Also "courted the ladies." The SEC schools he applied to seemed to be impressed. He's loving life." It could be irrelevant answers. Today's was: Question: Service Academy admissions for a recruited athlete. Anyone btdt? I have heard all the usual criticisms of service academies, all the reasons my dc has no shot, etc. So all you anti SA warriors can save your fingers from typing. I’m looking to hear from people whose DC have had athletic recruiting experiences at service academies, what the process was like, etc. And of course if your dc ended up there, what they like or don’t like about it." Answer: "My friends dc was recruited for a sport" It could be answers said like someone knows what they are talking about when they don't, etc. |
No shortage of this issue. First example I had read, but sort of struggled with what an impressive job might be and the subjectivity. I *think* that response felt similarly and was sarcastic.
Second example is really quite baffling. You wonder if they are new here or to these topics, but I suspect not. |
How about the posters who jump on every thread, ignore the actual question and just tell the OP that their kid won't get into school...
OP: where should I eat dinner in New Haven? Poster: wait until your kid actually gets in. Never mind that half the time the OP's post specified that their kid WAS already admitted but the reply poster is so eager to pronounce this as impossible that they don't even notice that detail. |
In fairness…nobody should start a thread from an absurdly defensive posture like the SA sports recruit person.
It invites people adversarial people. |
I think the issue is people taking themselves too seriously. |
…tired of people using AI to create posts. |

at least that's what I always think when people post about colleges with which they have no experience. My ire is particularly aimed at the anti-LAC crowd. But, really, anyone else who opines about the qualities of a school's education without having attended it, or having a child there, is to be ignored. |
Old people tend to post stuff out of very outdated information and impression.
