Did ur kid use ChatGPT and did they find it useful ( w/o getting flagged by the AO)? |
Everyone’s using AI for everything now. In high school, college, work, and everything in between. If you mistrust it, you’re either old or dumb. At least that what I’m hearing on DCUM lately. |
Yes. Used AI to write the main Common App essay and all supplemental essays. DC was accepted at multiple top 20s. I am not sure how kids apply to 12-20 colleges without using AI! That would have been 50+ supplemental essays. People say schools can tell if written by AI, but if you use advanced prompts it is really, really hard to detect. |
DC wrote essays self but used AI to help refine/advance and get ideas on how to shorten phrases.
Didn’t copy anything wholesale but used the AI essay services of Supps.aI, Admityogi, and kollegio to review “grading” of the supplemental essays to make sure each essay hit everything necessary to get the max score. Use a bunch of those tools!! There are so many now & they reall help give you ideas. There’s an old post here with all those tools listed. Play around with them now in the summer. Headed to T10. Admitted to multiple T20. |

How will it have anecdotes and a genuine style? It'll sound stilted and sterile. |
DD is a strong writer and refused to use it. I read the essays before they were submitted and I did use AI for some suggestions. DD could tell which suggestions came from AI. She spent A LOT of time on her essays.
She did apply for several essay scholarships and when the deadline was short she used AI for an outline and wrote the content. She will have to learn to accept AI because it will be incorporated into her major. She was accepted everywhere except one ivy and received every scholarship. |
Really?!!! I guess I am old and dumb!! Should have asked this question during our college tours. |
Yes. There is a correct way of using it to craft your essays. Very useful but you have to be smart to use it properly. Now if we could only get rid of recommendations because that is supremely biased. |
Biased towards whom? Students who did well in the class and were actively engaged in the learning? |
Oh no, how will those college essay tutors earn their income now ???! |
No, biased against groups that do well, but are not White or URM. |
