I don't understand adults who drink to the point of getting a hangover - why keep doing this?

Anonymous
I met up with some friends over the weekend. We're all between late 40's to early 60s. I'm not a teetotaler - I'll have a drink every now and then, but definitely not at every social occasion. I'm a lightweight, so one drink is more than enough for me to feel a buzz (or more).

Several of my friends were talking about how they felt like crap after x-night out, felt hungover, etc. Needed to lay in bed the next day. But they do this at least 1-2x a month. just don't understand it.

Maybe I'm just old, but that sounds miserable. It felt sorta cool in your 20s, but I (1) don't feel the need to drink to have a fun time, and (2) am too tired to waste time feeling like crap the next day.

If you still get hungover being a Grown Adult... WHY? Why continue to do things that make you feel awful? Is it really that fun for you the night before? Explain it to me please.

You're so much better/smarter/wiser than everyone else.

There, you have it.

I think it's a loss of control.

They don't know how to function socially without it. Period.

Because as I've gotten older, two drinks are enough to cause a hangover. And this is a new development.

I love drinking. There, I said it!
If it wasn't bad for you, I would do it all of the time. So, alas, I limit myself to social outings and the weekend. Sometimes- I have one too many- but I'm having fun while doing it.

+1. I've basically stopped drinking, but when I drink more than one, I get a hangover. Sometimes I want a couple beers, though, so I deal with it.

This is honest, and true for a lot of people (me included).

It's relaxing. I would still drink if it wasn't bad for my health.

I’m 64. I don’t go out nearly as much as I used to, but when I do, yea - I sometimes still get hammered and have a great time and wake up hungover. It’s fun!

And I don’t even drink unless I’m out. Like, not at all. Sometimes younjust gotta let loose, you know? OP you need to lighten up.

+1. It's 3 for me. I don't do it often but I am occasionally surprised after a party at just how much of a lightweight I am now.

These days I can get a hangover after two drinks even if I was eating and drinking water at a party for six hours. Sucks.
