I need jeans help

Anonymous
My whole wardrobe needs an overhaul, but I think I need to start with jeans. I basically just have one pair of medium/dark wash skinny jeans at this point (yes, I'm an elder millennial). I am a size 12 and 5'3, so typically need short/petite length.

But I'm just lost in large part because I hate the current trend in jeans (the Seinfeld/mom jean/whatever that look is) and can't imagine they'd look good on me anyway. I haven't really loved jeans since the low waist boot cut days of yore (it didn't hurt that that's when I was 3 sizes smaller). I never even really liked skinny jeans, I was slow to hop on that, but remain stuck there from inertia.

Can anyone inspire me? Guide me to something current that might be flattering, and not make me look like 90s era Gap catalog reject?

Wait, I thought boot cut/flares were coming in even bigger for this fall, so why can't you just wear those if they flatter you?

Make an appt with a stylist at Nordstrom (free). Tell them your size, that you are looking for new jeans, and if you have any other guidance (prefer dark wash, want some give, only want boot cut, etc), they will pull a bunch of appropriate jeans, and walk you through them all, pointing out what works and what doesn't

Not OP, but also need jeans, so might do this.

Did have issues the only time I did use a Nordstrom stylist in the past though. She picked good things, but I ended up with an outfit that was way over budget when I'd been clear about (what was a very reasonable) budget. OP, if you do this, check prices before trying on.

Just block out a few hours and try on all the jeans at Nordstrom. I’m 5 “3 and a size 6-8. I actually prefer non petite in jeans but look for ankle or crop styles. I like Mother jeans but they are pricey. Other to try Joe’s, frame, rag&bone, Levi’s, Hudson. People seem to really like AG and free people.

I recently did an overhaul of jeans and tried on everything at Madewell. Felt like there were good options—I’m similar in height/weight/size. But just needed to find my new default pair of jeans.

Went to the Georgetown store, midday, midweek.
