So many friends on GLPs

Anonymous
I just reconnected with a group of college friends and we met up for dinner. Every single one looks fantastic - maybe even better in their mid 40s than their 20s. I came to find out that 3 of the 4 women are on GLPs which helped them lose 10-20 lbs (none were overweight) and now they are just micro dosing to maintain. They all said they feel better then they have in years, didn’t have bad side effects, and focus on eating protein so they don’t lose muscle.

Anyway, here I am struggling to lose 10-15 lbs like always - restricting my calories, working out a ton, etc, and barely seeing the scale move. Every time I do lose it it ends up coming back again.

Just wondering why I don’t take the easier route like so many others. I would need to find a doctor to prescribe it since my PCP won’t (despite telling me my BMI is too high and I need to focus on losing 10-15 lbs).

Go for it. I feel way better having lost 40 lbs and maintaining it. I am grateful I can be healthier using the tools available. It's not like I didn't try for the first 50 years of my life!

What is your question?

I literally don't know anyone taking that stuff. I used to know one person peripherally who took it about ten years ago and bought it illegally, but she also made her own sunscreen so I didn't pay much attention.

I wouldn't do it for that small a weight loss but you should go ahead if it helps your mental health.

You'd be surprised how many are on them and don't talk about it. My doctor (male) lost 30 lbs and never mentioned it until I asked him to prescribe it for me. He says many doctors and nurses are on it.

My experience is I paid $1000 a month for less than 12 months at a med spa and got my weight down from borderline obese to in-range for a normal BMI, about 25 lbs. Now I’m trying to ease off at 2 lower dose shots a week. It doesn’t sound like you are unhealthy, but maybe you should try spending money on a trainer and nutritionist. Best money you can spend is on your health.

Or act like you’re on the drugs, and cut eating in half. Will do the same thing.

I bet you do know people on it, they just aren't telling you.

Go for it but watch your hair! I experienced hair loss and no it wasn’t from rapid weight loss.

This is why no one talks to you about it. You are a judgey friend. No one needs that in their life.

Yup. Once camp expenses are over I'm going to find some to take off these 15 peri menopause pounds. As without it I can't underwear my body's desire to stay at that weight. If hormones and age are against me then I'll use modern medicine.

+1

GLPs are just a tool to help you lose weight. So many studies have been done documenting how resistant the body is to weight loss, yet getting to a healthy weight is so beneficial to your health and quality of life. If you can afford it, use it. It’s no different than paying for a nutritionist or a personal trainer. It’s not a miracle drug - I know 2 people who were not successful because they didn’t use it to implement diet and exercise changes. But this judgement about people cutting corners to lose weight instead of slaving away for a pound or Two or basically starving themselves is ridiculousn

I feel like my diet/exercise and everything else about my body is 99% the same with/without the compound except that I lost 16 pounds. It took a year after I’d tried and failed to lose the same weight for a decade. I paid $89 per month.

DH was at first mortified when I took it to lose 15 lbs (ended up losing 25, now at my high school weight and feel great), so after going off on me he got if for himself and lost 20. Both micro dosing indefinitely now. It feels so nice to no longer be consumed by thoughts of food, and to run fast without carrying extra weight. I do kinda think people who need to lose weight and are judging instead of trying it are kinda suckers.
