Shrub rec?

Anonymous
I’m looking for a big full sun evergreen shrub that I can plant in a border that abuts the house (so something that is okay planted about 4 feet from house.) any ideas greatly appreciated!

I love my cherry laurels. Quick googling suggests they would be fine 3-4 feet from a house, but might want to double check with a pro.

How tall do you want them?

Basically there’s no shrub that would be a problem 3-4ft from a house.

Osmanthus are good choices, certain camellias could be really nice, holly with spines aren’t very welcoming along a house but there are a lot of hybrid hollys without spines that still produce berries.

Boxwoods are obviously a popular choice.

I’m not a fan of the coniferous shrubs.

Some viburnum will be evergreen, especially if this is a spot protected from cold north/west winds and you have a light colored house (you could plant them close tha 3-4ft to help keep them warmer).

Holly is the easiest to grow, hardly ever affected by bugs or drought or extreme temps and will last years, and easy to trim and upkeep is very minimal.

Lots of hollys would work. There are good native ones too.

There are evergreen azaleas too.
