| DS has been volunteering with multiple organizations this past school year and entering his hours in xvol. They have not been verified by his counselor. Does FCPS still require SLH to graduate? |
| no |
| I think they actually get verified by the SS but you can resubmit and contact student services in the fall if they don’t’ get approved. |
| No, but you can get the community service chord and you need them for honors societies. I It often took several months at least before they were verified at the school. |
| They are verified by the organization he volunteered with and approved by the college counselor or other similar admin |
| To get the special cord, how many hours do you need? Where can you complete the hours? |
| Is there a point to getting more than the required hours in 8th grade. Seems some of DD classmates are planning to do 30 instead of 15 and was wondering if they will end up with some sort of award/honor but no one is telling kids this is a possibility. Seems to happen a lot in FCPS. |
| 8th grade doesn’t matter for anything except possible junior NHS if your kid joins that. Mine didn’t, because they didn’t want to log volunteer hours for the school and I knew I’d have to help with that at their age and they were already busy with sports. There is technically no point in ever logging with with the school at any age, even high school, unless you really want that graduation cord. |
To be in NHS you need to do service hours and log them. That’s the point. |
| It says you need 40 hours in high school for the cord. Do you have to do 10 per year or could you possibly do 20 one year and then 10 and 10? Asking because we didn’t know and my kid didn’t do any service as a freshman. |
This kid is in 8th grade so not in NHS. So yes, that is the only reason I can think of if your kids are in HS. The hours need to be verified. Otherwise it doesn’t matter for college or life or anywhere else. |
| There is a middle school service award and you need 40 hours for it |
can be any of the HS years. |
What is this award? |
