Disgusting. Fortunately he has left the country.

A man has pleaded guilty to a federal crime after he was accused of assaulting a police K9 at Dulles International Airport, kicking it so hard it went airborne.

According to an affidavit from a federal air marshal, the man, an Egyptian national, kicked the Customs and Border Protection K9 — a 5-year-beagle named Freddy — as it was helping screen luggage Tuesday. It happened at a baggage claim area where EgyptAir Flight 981 luggage was being deposited after arriving at the Washington, D.C.-area airport.

Freddy, who was "trained to find illicit agricultural contraband," was helping with screening in the baggage claim area when he "alerted to a piece of luggage" and tried to inspect it further, the affidavit said. The owner of the luggage, Hamed Aly Marie, came over to the dog and an agent and started talking to the agent, according to the affidavit.

Freddy's injuries included "contusions to his right forward rib area," Customs and Border Protection said.

Marie's bag was allegedly filled with more than 100 pounds agricultural items prohibited from entering the U.S., including 55 pounds of beef, 44 pounds of rice, 15 pounds of eggplant, cucumbers and bell peppers, two pounds of corn seeds and a pound of herbs, according to a statement from Customs and Border Protection.

Marie, 70, was arrested Wednesday. He pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Virginia to a federal criminal count of malicious assault on a police animal. He was credited with time served and forced to pay the veterinarian fee, CBP said. Court documents indicated the fee amounted to $840. He flew back to Egypt on a flight that left around 12:30 p.m. ET Thursday, according to CBP.

Muslims don't hate dogs. In Islam, dogs are respected but traditionally seen as ritually impure, which is why they don't keep them indoors. It’s more about religious cleanliness than hate.

DP here. That PP is right. I lived in a Muslim country in that region for a few years for work, and traveled regularly to Egypt itself. The level of hatred and abuse directed not only toward "street dogs", but toward "pet" dogs was disgusting (and most other animals too, to be honest). You would see boys outside (girls didn't play outside, of course) tormenting or hurting dogs in the street often, and adults didn't care at all. I knew multiple people who were soooo proud they had Huskies, which for some reason were super fashionable among the wealthier people in that country, even though it was hot all year round. However, they wouldn't keep the dogs in the house because, as was explained to me a few times by proud Huskie owners, it wasn't "Islamic" to have dogs in the home. The conditions those poor Huskies were kept in was horrific: outside in little cages in the sun and the dust and pollution all the time, never allowed to run, and the SMELL. These energetic dogs did not do well in those conditions, but their owners and the kids of their owners would freely hit or kick them to calm them down. And those were the "dog lovers." Huskies were not the only dogs being abused as "pets" there. Don't get me started on the poor little donkeys you would regularly see, skinny, covered in sores (they beat them hard when they fall in the streets, and just leave them at the side of the road to rot when they finally collapse), or the camels and other animals they felt were being "prepared humanely for food. Those countries are hell for animals (and women/girls, and poor people, and minorities).

So yeah, I can absolutely see a person from that region acting thsi way. PEOPLE ("maids"/slaves, poor people, women) are treated so badly there, let alone all of the various animals abused on a regular basis. It is normal to them and would not draw any particular attention or comment where this man lives.

Dogs are treated horribly in Muslim countries; though most people there would not tell you they "hate" dogs, there is no understanding of how to treat an animal and no concept that animals have feelings and deserve to be treated in a way that honors this. Yes, this is just indicative of a larger systemic problem where most people in those countries don't even understand what it means to treat an animal humanely. They have a rigid socio-economic class system as well and mistreat humans of a lower social class than themselves.

Please don't stereotype like this. Take each person as an individual.

This guy likely knew he had contraband in his bags and that's why he was scared of the dog getting too close. Not for religious reasons but for criminal ones.
