Looking for recommendations for restaurants in NYC where we can go with our college age kids. Not looking for tourist spots or places where it’s impossible to get a reservation - looking for a place with good food and a good vibe that can accommodate a party of 8. Open to different locations and any kind of food. Budget is flexible.
*did a search already and don’t see any recent suggestions along these lines. |
I love Manny’s on the upper west side. Amazing food and lots of locals there.

I mean, the food is SO GOOD. Thousands of places would fit the bill.
Here are a couple that I can recommend: https://www.vicsnewyork.com/menus-1 https://www.yelp.com/biz/bird-dog-new-york?osq=casual+dining |
Gersi in Brooklyn is a good local place for Italian
Shukette is great and you do need to make a reservation soon after they open up for your date but it is not crazy trendy or anything and the food is so good |
Love Shukette and Shuka. Tucci’s for Italian, Pastis, Locanda Verde and Corner Store. |
I love i sodi in the west village. |
Yoon haeundae Gali is amazing upscale Korean bbq with great cocktails, Gramercy tavern, ABC kitchen, casa lever. |
I had a great meal at ABC Kitchen a few weeks ago |
The biggest problem with NYC restaurants is the noise level, if you hope to converse. A pre-theatre place at 7:45 when theatre-goers have left is a possibility. Off-hours can work, say 5:30, or on the water. Pig and Khao was my best meal of late! I live in Manhattan, btw. But, yes, we reserved for 5:30. Also Laser Wolf in Brooklyn May be worth a try. I enjoyed their branch in Philadelphia. |
Thanks for all of these great recommendations! —OP |
Love Frenchette and Semma. Semma may be hard to get now, as they just were ranked #1 in the NYT. But Frenchette should be doable. Lovely. |
Semma or Atomix. Also delicious -- The Grill. |
They might like Hudson yards. Milos is top notch |
