The two AP histories offered for my kid to take sophomore year. Her pre-AP world teacher suggested she take AP World next year, because she really likes history and did well in her class this year. However, the teacher also said that AP Human Geo is great for those interested in the sciences (which she is). However, I'm worried AP Human Geo is seen as an "easy AP" and won't look as rigorous as AP World (which the majority of the top kids at her school are taking). She's also heard horror stories about AP World from upperclassmen, mainly some of the teachers that teach it at her school. Which course should she take? |
Leave it to the teacher and her student. |
AP World will be perceived as more rigorous by some admissions offices. |
Incredibly slight difference, if any. What matters more is which class the more academic kids at your school take |
I never took AP Human Geo, but took AP World and found it super enjoyable to learn about different religions and early civilizations. If your daughter has a love of learning, she'll like it. |
FWIW, my kid took Human Geo the same (junior) year she did APES, and said the courses have overlapping content, so it made for easy studying. So if your kid intends to take APES, perhaps align Human Geo and take World the other year. |
World |
Maybe pass out a survey to the freshman asking them their current grade average and which class they are going to take? Unbelievable |
Big difference, actually. |
AP World and then AP Geo. They are not difficult, but of course it's best if you like the subject matter! |
