Miami Beach Resort Long Weekend

Anonymous
I'm looking at a trip for our 35th anniversary. We have a Marriott gift card. I'd like to stay on the beach with a nice pool and restaurants nearby. I don't know anything about Miami but the plane tickets are super low. Any recommendations? Thank you!

Not Miami, but we like the beachfront Marriott resort in Ft. Lauderdale. The Marriott options in Miami aren’t as nice.

St Regis Bal Harbour or Ritz Bal Harbour

lol...the Marriot resort in Ft Lauderdale is a zoo. The Ritz and the St. Regis are much nicer and more peaceful.

We've done Key Biscayne Ritz. The property is nice and relaxing but a little tired.

I haven't been to Ritz Coconut Grove or South Beach since before they were renovated. Nice and convenient locations.

Those are more than I can spend. I was hoping around $500 a night.

I found a nice one in South Beach but I was told it was very much a gay beach. Don't go at me, but my husband would not be comfortable with that.

Are those Marriott-brand hotels, though?

The Marriott Stanton South Beach is nice. It is right on the beach. The pool can get a bit crowded and it’s not super luxury, but it’s solid. It is in a great area for delicious restaurants, right at south pointe park, walkable to all of the busier areas or you can take the free trolley or rent bikes-they have drop stations all over.

Ditto on South Beach Marriott or Ritz. You can walk everywhere.

South Beach hotels have a diverse clientele. It’s no more gay than Rehoboth.

I beg to differ...

South Beach is considered a hub of LGBT lifestyle. In the 80s and 90s, South Beach was the center of Florida's gay life and nightlife. It is home to many hotels, clubs, and nightlife that caters to the LGBT community. Ocean Drive is a hotspot to socialize and there is LGBT friendly shopping and cocktailing on Lincoln Road. The World Erotic Art Museum on South Beach is considered a local favorite to visit.

South Beach is also the location of the Pride Parade and Pride Festival events during Pride Week of the annual Miami Beach Pride celebration. Both of the events run through Ocean Drive from Fifth to 15th Streets.[17] First started in 2009, Miami Beach Pride now draws over 130,000 people to South Beach every year.

I’ve been there several times—including with my kids.

We’ve stayed at Loews and The Gale. We honestly haven’t noticed many gay people at the hotels or beach. It’s mostly an international crowd—very touristy.

We go to SB every year. There are no more gays there than anywhere else we go. Palm Springs, CA is a different story...it is a gay mecca but I don't really care...it has no bearing on me.
