My DC has a ton! Math, ELA and Spanish. Seems excessive. It’s doable, but am wondering if others are as annoyed as I am? |
Nope. Bring it on baby! |
Not annoyed. I'm glad. An assigned book to read, math (online), and a packet for language class. |
I’m more concerned by the fact that 7th grade English has dropped from 4 required books down to 1 for the whole school year. What’s going on with middle school at headquarters? First the travesty of Amplify Science and now this… |
NP and please reach out to DCPS and OSSE. Kids are not required to read many books at all from 6th-12th grade. |
This. It’s terrible. Some schools they read exerpts and not the whole book either. |
My kid spends 7 weeks off the grid at camp. When are they supposed to be getting all this done? It’s a little much |
I’m sure they can find time during the two weeks they are home. The summer slide is real for a lot of kids. |
It’s not a lot. It used to be more. If they didn’t provide it, parents would complain about summer slide.
Is your camper allowed to bring the assigned reading and language packet to camp? |
I am fine with it. It is the best way to prevent the loss of learning that happens over the summer. |
I mean, sure, but aren’t they also allowed to have a summer break? It just seems absurd. They will knock it out, but it’s just annoyingly unnecessary busywork that is disruptive to our summer plans |
OSSE doesn't make those decisions. They do standards, not curriculum. |
What? What middle schools have summer homework? |
Latin |
It must be hours and hours and HOURS of work over the 9-10 weeks of summer. So very disruptive! |
