Most years we drive from Rockville down to Florida. We usually break the drive down into a couple nights so we can do something on the journey. The past few years we have been stopping at colleges (ie U of SC, Elon/Duke, Charleston). Now that the college decisions are done, anyone have suggestions of somewhere interesting to stop along the way on I-95 S? |
If you are movie buffs look for places where your movies were filmed |
We never found anywhere better than Charleston to break the journey. |
How much time will you have? I’d do a stop in Hilton Head if you could add in a couple of extra hours to play and explore there. |
If you are just looking for something interesting for a day or two. Charleston. Bluffton. Savannah. Tybee island. Jekyll island.
Or take a different route. We like driving through Charlottesville. |
If you’re looking for better-than-average quick stops, Buc-ees in Florence and the Florida Welcome Center. |
agree with Jekyll island - it doesn't feel as far off the path as some of the other beaches. my other suggestion is near the cape fear botanical garden. |
Savannah is lovely.
My immediate smart ass thought when I read your title though was South of the Border. I remember being fascinated by the signs as a kid. |
+1 on South of the Border |
Don’t waste your time. The place has been dead for decades. Everyone stops at Buc-ees now. |
The airport. Long drives are the worst! |
South of the border is awful. Buckees is OK but an acquired taste.
You might be better off stopping in Raleigh Durham or Charlotte or Charleston or just going a little out of your way to a major city in North Carolina or South Carolina on your way down. |
