Do all K-8 schools do these for graduating eighth graders? What is your class doing this year and what the $$ goal?
We’re trying to figure out how much to give. We came later to the school. I suspect some lifer families give quite a bit. |
Give what feels appropriate to you. Everyone’s financial abilities are different. |
Our school used to, but we stopped in the last few years. The school said they appreciated the effort, but felt like it was a lot of extra work for parents and the school to come up with, fundraiser for, and bring a gift together that felt meaningful, worked with the budget, and was something the school actually needed. I appreciated the candor. |
DC is in HS now, but we dealt with this a couple years ago for k-8 graduation. The school admin in charge of helping the class decide what they wanted to do polled the parents to get a ballpark amount they expected to get, then worked with the kids to come up with and then vote on ideas for the class gift (parents also weighed in on the ideas - I forget exactly how the final determination was made). I thought it was smart of them to figure out the budget first and then match the gift to the budget.
And yes, give what you want. We do $150ish most years and $1000-1200 for graduation years. Some families do far more, and others do less. Do what works for you. |
We didnt do one at our K-8 |
