| DS graduated early and we have money left in both his INVEST529 and American Funds 529. As per Google it looks like I can make one transfer a year without penalty. It appears that the Invest plan has much lower fees that the AmerFunds. If that is correct, do you think I should consolidate into the Invest plan for him? Don't anticipate him using this money anytime soon, although in a few years we may transfer it our daughter if we need it. Thoughts? |
I would keep in the American Funds. I would not worry about the fees. they are too small to really matter. |
I was going to give the exact opposite answer. American Funds will likely have way worse fees, although depending on which class shares you have, much of that may have been the initial sales charge that's a sunk cost. Check your specifics, but higher fees absolutely do eat into returns over time. |
| I was going to reply similar to #3, that American funds are likely much worse fees, but we'd need more information. Invest529 fees ca can be found here (https://www.invest529.com/investment-options/fees-expenses/), and can range from 0.065% to 0.55%. Time horizon will also matter here, as the larger the time horizon, the larger the effects of higher fees. |
