46, gained 15 lbs, body is melting - what do I wear

Anonymous
46 hasn't been kind. While I'm figuring out hormones, exercise regime, food, etc, I need to get dressed. It's hot. I hate my legs - they are veiny and I have thick ankles. I need suggestions for skirts that I can wear that are above the knee. I have a few long skirts, and i have a few dresses, and I have linen pants. But - I would like a few shorter options despite the current state of my body - and I'm stuck. Help me with suggestions? I'm a size 10/12.

46 here too and things have also really deteriorated for me this year: weight gain despite no change in diet or exercise, loss of muscle, frequent periods, etc. I have no suggestions, just saying you're not alone!

Boden has a ton of dress options that may work. I like how they have a range of sleeve and skirt lengths.

Wear caftan-like dresses, long and shapeless. Maxi dresses with a high or defined waist are good, too. Take a tip from Dame Judi dench, accessorize with long scarves that draw the eye down and create a long vertical line.

This happened to me. Do you have a decent chest or no? If yes wear something shapeless and tenty. If not, you want something with a defined waist at your thinnest part. High waisted things make me look like a geriatric pregnancy. Boden works okay — I order tall so the waist is lower. Wrap dresses can be okay. Nothing is great TBH. I have an old la de end fit and flare that I wear when I just want to be cool but it does make my butt look enormous.

This is the opposite of what OP should be looking for. Jeez.
OP, check out Lintico --they have tons of nice linen dresses that could work for you:

Lintico is horrid. It's all cheap thin linen made in china.

Skip the skirt and get yoga pants one or two sizes too small. Do your shopping at Wal-mart and you’ll fit right in with the new trend.

Fashion begins not on the runway in NYC but at Wal-Mart.

Why above the knee if you don’t like your legs? Plenty of midi skirts out there, and maxis are good too. I don’t see that many 46+ yo women wearing above the knee skirts to work

Here’s an option that combines the best of both worlds in my opinion - reads midi, functions short. I bought in both colors. The cotton is very lightweight, the slits on the sides go up to around my knees but are virtually invisible given the volume of the skirt and the airiness of the fabric. Yesterday in 90 degree heat the air was flowing nicely around and through the skirt and I was really comfortable.

This is some of the least stylish, ugliest, and visibly cheapest shit I’ve ever seen on this godforsaken part of the board. Congrats.

Yes to this shape. However, this particular dress looks like a patient uniform from an old-time asylum.
