Arrival at IAD today

Anonymous
DD arrives at IAD from international flight at 7pm today. How long would you allow to get through immigration, bag pick up, etc? No American passport.

30 minutes. And another 20-30 to get off the plane and to the customs and baggage area.

7 is usually a busy time. Allow 20 minutes for the plane to disembark and for first passengers to start arriving at passport control with the mobile lounge. Then allow at least an hour for passport control. At most optimistic, not before 8:00 pm. Normal lines around 8:30. And if a couple of planes land at around same time, then around 9:00.

1h to 2hrs+. Non-US citizen here. If she's the first international plane in her time slot and hurries to border control, she could get out in as little as an hour. But if she's the 3rd, then forget it, the lines are going to be 2 hrs long.

One time my parents took 4 hours, because their plane, coming from Paris, was selected for secondary questioning, and most of the passengers (or all?) had to wait in a special waiting room. They were in their early 70s, and saw mothers with very young infants, people in wheelchairs, all waiting for hours. Luckily everyone had seats. And then, after hours of waiting, they were told they could leave freely, WITHOUT getting their second interview! Insanity.

I was waiting for them at Arrivals, and was going crazy with my kids, not knowing what had happened to them (couldn't reach them on their phone), until an airport attendant took pity on me and told me that my parents' flight had been detained for questioning.

You sure about that? The really big incoming block I see is from Europe, arriving around 2:30-5:30 or so. By 7 PM there are a few flights but definitely dying down.

My daughter landed at 7:30 2 weeks ago and it took over 2 hours until she was through.

I came on a later flight from London and got stuck for ages. I think they had fewer desks open, but still a lot of passengers.

Yeah makes sense that they would dial down staff as the flight numbers drop. Just never going to be quick for non-US residents

How's it going, OP?

She landed at 7pm and was through by 7.50pm. She was on a school trip and they asked parents to be there at 8:45 pm. I thought that seemed excessive (although I realise it can take that long) and I’m so glad I asked here to confirm. DH and I only waited less than 10 mins.

We came back Saturday with US passports and it took 1 hr from landing thru immigration and that included using the Mobile Passport line. The regular line was at least another 30 min.
