Clearly the two best clubs for U-Littles in the area (U8-U12). Both doing really impressive work at all young ages and setting up top boys for long term success. Obviously some one off teams at Celtic, Coppermine and Arlington/Alexandria also are very good - but SYC and Bethesda seem to be on another level for the young, top talent.
So here is the question: which local club is setting boys up best for long term success (for instance, landing at a top MLS academy)? Sounds like there will be a bit of movement between clubs this summer… |
you're I would not consider SYC one of the best in the area for U-Littles. Particularly if you're wanting to stay with a club long term. They have a kick and run philosophy. And if your kid wants to play in college, the track record is not great. Too early to think about that perhaps. If your kid is huge for his age and you truly think he can play at an MLS Academy (and if he's younger than 11, you don't know)...then SYC might be an option. Otherwise, Bethesda and Arlington have the best track record of sending kids to academies or top universities. |
SYC’s U-13 and U-14 results this past week suggest they may be one of the best developmental clubs in the entire country.
Arlington has historically been very strong and remains competitive, but can’t really compare to SYC given recent success. |
Winning and development are not the same thing |
If SYC was serious about development, those kids should be playing up. Until their older age groups garner as much success as their U13/U14, I think the jury is still out on SYC’s development prowess. For everyone else, who is not the top 3 on their team, the best club for development is a club where practices allow ur player to get lots of touches against serious, tough players, and regular playing time that allows u to actually use a variety of individual skills |
For the 💯th time folks. Winning 🏆 DOES NOT equal development. SYC is the last place I would send my child for long-term development. Arlington, Achilles and Bethesda are all better than SYC in terms of a track record of development as well as my son’s direct experience with their training. I can’t think of one SYC alum currently in the pros while Bethesda Alumni Aaron Heard and Kevin Paredes are both in the Bundesliga and USMNT pools and Kristian Fletcher, another BSC alum, just returned from loan at Nottingham Forest to DCU and is also in the USMNT pool. SYC is where local kids win and their long-term talent dies. Their U Littles teams will probably destroy Arlington, Achilles and Bethesda this upcoming year which will make those parents happy. Pay attention in 5 years when puberty levels everything else out and those SYC players get passed and played around like mannequins. |
SYC U13’s have 2-3 strikers that are 5’9 to 6’1. Is it skill or puberty? |
This. |
Depends what you want. If you want your kids to play in college SYC is not where it’s at. Got Bethesda or Arlington- both have very good track record on college placement.
If you think your kid is the top .001 who can go pro then maybe SYC is for you. But their college results are not good at all. Even with their top teams. |
Several of the small grass roots clubs in the area with former professional players who love the game are doing great jobs with developing U-littles with 1/5 the resources of the SYC's and Bethesda's etc |
Majority of SYC’s oldest age team did not get into any colleges. Obviously they are not going pro, so what do you think happens to them next? Not a fan of Bethesda either but you should ask both clubs where their oldest age teams went. |
What clubs? Really curious about this. |
Nice try 😉 SYC is the place to go pro with 0% pro player production 🤣 The .001 SYC kids are so good that they missed pro and overshot college into a mysterious abyss 🤣 |
Talent at Bethesda and SYC at U9-U12 far surpasses other local clubs. Steel sharpens steel.
It’s not apples to apples but kids in Europe don’t pick the academies of Ipswich and Brentford over Man City and Chelsea so they can get more touches and be the guy at a young age. Or for the coaching. If you want to be the best, go find the best and compete. Kids overseas are great because they are embedded in the culture and constantly surrounded by top level talent. My hope is the best in this area do not disperse but rather consolidate and compete and push each other to greater heights. |
For the 100th time? I’ve definitely seen more than 100 posts from bitter parents about development vs. winning. |
