Please recommend. Ideally looking for a suite hotel since we are traveling with our kids and bringing cousins with them (tweens and teens), but if we have to get separate hotel rooms we can do that. Also, looking for great healthy food restaurants. One child has Celiac and another has food allergies-so places sensitive to that are a bonus. Any must see sites, etc? We will not have a car. Thanks!! |
Maine is a big state. Where will you be going? |
Sorry, I saw that you said Portland. My suggestions are all for Acadia. |
Depending on what your teens are into, they might enjoy Victoria mansion and a stroll to Haberdashery, a well curated consignment store. There’s a hotel right next door with a Mediterranean restaurant, Tiqa, that we enjoyed for lunch. |

Look out for the homeless and drug users. It has become so bad my friend moved back to MI from Maine this year. She lived in Portland. |
I really like the Portland Art museum and it’s in the walkable downtown area. Not sure if kids would.
I think you should go to a beach, but you’ll need a car or uber. |
My teen loved Casablanca comics and Crispy Gai. I also enjoyed Crispy Gai.

I agree the art museum is surprisingly great. I think we stayed at the Residence Inn, which was walkable and should have suites and breakfast…and fridges etc.
We flew, which was quick and easy. No car. The boat rides to Peak’s Island, etc. are fun and cheap. I think we did it twice in three days. Uber and Lyft were good for the airport and for Whole Foods. Enjoy. |
Portland is delightful.
Food: Central Provisions, Scales, Duckfat, Terlingua. All are exceptional. Oh, and Dutch's for divine breakfasts. |
We stayed recently at The Docent Collection and would stay again. It’s a condo-style hotel. Perfect walking location to everything in Old Port but no bars downstairs so you avoid that late night noise you might find with some hotels in the area. The condo was huge and really clean. It was nice having the space.
I second Terlingua (have to drive to this one) and Crispy Gai. Both are delicious. Empire Chinese Kitchen is also great with a lot of gluten free options. |
We recently were there and really enjoyed Eventide Ouster Co and Solo Italiano. |
Really? Are you sure you don’t mean Portland Oregon? |
Maine has issues with drugs. But also, so what? What does LOOK OUT mean? NP |
Peaks Island, Bradbury Mtn in Pownal, Crescent Beach State Park, any ice cream place that sells Giffords, Fielders Choice Ice Cream, maybe a night in a yurt at Runaround Pond in Durham, Popham Beach, Brunswick’s downtown… |
