The only luck I had was doing organized scouts activities.

Koinonia in Springfield has children help with their large food drives. We always helped with the one in the fall. It’s mostly done by Boy Scouts, but Girl Scouts helped with the sorting and boxing.

Many places allow you to make items, like birthday baskets and backpacks to bring to the food pantry. S.O.M.E. in DC allowed us to bring a dessert once. They allow premade casseroles now. They feed a lot of people, so it can be a big undertaking.

Another good idea would be your local Animal Shelter or a possible animal rescue organization.

Kudos to you (or whomever❣️) for encouraging a young person to volunteer.
It is always a wonderful experience giving back. ❤️

St Philips in Laurel would.
It’s the 3rd Sunday every month.
On the Friday the food gets delivered and they need help getting it inside and on shelves.
On the Saturday it’s sorted into bags
On Sunday people come to get food between 8-12 and you sign up for a 2 hour shift.
As long as your kid can follow directions and be helpful they would be welcome.
If you’re interested call the office and ask to be put on the email list.

I’m not sure where you live, but Montgomery County has a volunteer database that is searchable by age. If you live elsewhere, your area might have a similar resource, or if not, you might be able to use the MC database for ideas that you could then explore where you are.
