This is not about DC public/charter schools, but this seemed like the best forum to catch DC parents...(and we are at a DCPS school)
My 16-year-old daughter signed up for the Marion Barry summer jobs program, hoping very much to work at a DC public library (her first choice). Instead, we've just learned that she is enrolled in a 6 week resume writing and work readiness program. We need to find something else. She is not super STEM oriented but is interested in computer science. She would also do pretty much any job. (She put in a lot of applications at boba shops, cafes, ice cream stores but got rejected.) Anybody know of a girls coding program that might still have room or some sort of retail job for a 16-year-old? We live in Mt Pleasant so ideally at a location she can reach on foot or by metro. (We can't afford an expensive tech camp, so we're hoping for a low cost or free STEM program.) |
Be thankful for what you got and take it. |

Yes, here's an opportunity: https://kids4code.org/apply |
Howard University and Amazon launched a summer drone academy program for high school students. The official deadline was a couple of weeks ago but there may still be spots available.
