Supplementing writing?

Anonymous
Does anyone have a good way to supplement writing? We've been happy with the math and reading curriculum but DS's writing needs some work and more intervention than he's able to get at school. If this were math or reading there are far more resources. This is for rising 6th.

DD has been using the writing program through Khanmigo — the Khan Academy AI tutor that costs $4/month. So far, so good.

Is this for writing? What grade is your child? And have you seen any improvements?

She is a rising 8th grader and only just got started, but so far she likes it. There are different tools you can use -- one has kids write a story with the AI, two sentences at a time, with prompts. They can also use the AI to create a 5-paragraph essay or other prompts. I think it's good to keep working on writing over the summer.

I diy. But if you need someone else, do you know anyone who is a good writer? Like a friend?

My ES teachers were dismal at teaching writing and made me afraid to write. My DC’s teachers don’t give any feedback who h is also terrible. Be careful who you let teach your child.

Give them open ended writing prompts over the summer.

I just looked this up-it seems like the “writing coach” for Khanmigo is only available to teachers who sign off that they’re using it for a school. Is this what you’re using?

PP whose kid uses Khanmigo. She uses some of the tools they have. I have a parent account, not a teacher account, but I think you can sign up for a teacher account if you want one.
