DS headed to Europe for 8 days - what are we forgetting to pack?

Anonymous
Will be in Lisbon, Barcelona, and Nice. Anything you can think of besides the obvious? (shorts, tshirts + sunscreen!). Safety and/or comfort? I have only been to Barca, and that was decades ago.

They have stores there.

Is he an adult??? What's with the "we?"

We don’t know what he has already packed—how will we know what’s missing?

Phone charger, wall adapter, backup source of funds in case one card gets shutoff (check with credit card company about authorizing travel).

Basic OTC medicines - for headache, stomachache, diarrhea. Box of foam earplugs.

Advance tickets to sites that need pre-booking (Sagrada Familia?).

Thank you! I called the credit card companies and they said they no longer authorize travel - "our fraud detector technology is very advanced." We'll see about that, I guess.

He'll be with several friends so worst case, someone else can likely cover.

Get the sunscreen there! It's more advanced than what we have in USA. And give him a list of skin care items to pick up for you in Spain in a normal pharmacy (isdin water based sunscreen!!! - https://www.isdin.com/us/c/sun-care/face-sunscreens)

Euro coins for the public toilets

Does he do ok in the heat? My 18 year just spent a week in Rome with 98 degree days. He wished he would have brought one of those neck fans or cooling neck towels. Due to the heat, he’s doing laundry more often than planned.

Didn’t we just go through a whole list as “you” were packing in case you may be forgetting something? Are you a parent of one of the other 3 friends (that is also going “solo” with 3 friends for a week):

Make sure he has good credit card back ups. DS has a Greenlight card and there was an outage last week so could not be used for about a day.

Unfortunately, our backup option isn’t great. This week he had difficulty paying his hostel bill with my Chase United Mileage card, despite Chase saying no travel notification was required. It was over $1,000 for the hostel so maybe it was flagged by transaction size

I strongly recommend using the Cost Split app. You need to pay $1 for the full version. My DS is travelling with friends and every time one of them pays something that covers one or two of the others, they enter it on Cost Split and it keeps a running tally.

Is he over 18? If not, he will probably need an authorisation letter from you addressed to the hostel or hotel.
