Notre dame waitlist?

Anonymous
ND sent an email today saying waitlist is closed but a "very small number" of kids have been be placed on a smaller list. Anyone else get this or know how large it is? I think the original list was pretty small already-around 1000 if it was the same as previous years.

Is your kid on the smaller list? That's the question?

Don't know what a normal waitlist is, but 1000 on the WL for ND -- a school that usually has a very high yield -- seems like a lot to me.

GL to your to your DC!

There is a post on Reddit on this where a bunch of kids say they got offered this smaller waitlist…

These schools are annoying. But it's hard to know with Reddit because there are like 1.5 million posters in the "applying to college" thread and when a college takes as few as 10 kids off a waitlist, generally at least a few will post. The amount of traffic on there is insane.

ND typically takes well under 100 kids off the waitlist in any given year. It’s basically a rejection from the onset.

yes, this is the case for any school.
Over the last 5 years, the acceptance rate off the ND waitlist has ranged from 3% to 43%.

From the common data sets published by the university.

But as to ND this year---it really seems like they sent this "We've closed the waitlist but you're in the select few we kept" email seems to be a bunch of crap. Pretty much everyone on Reddit got it and maybe one kid got one phrased differently.

I am SO F-ING OVER universities and their admissions games.
Ultimately they're being a$$holes to kids.
Do better adults.

Notre Dame is prestigious and selective and has a high yield.

Wow, taking 43% from the waitlist is a huge amount. Wonder what happened that year.

I took a look at the last five years and there were only 3 of those years where this info was shared:
2020-21 -- 43%
2023-24 -- 4%
2024-25 -- 3%

The other years were not reported.

Something most people don't know is that during the 2020-21 year (covid), the university did not allow students who enrolled to stay home and do remote learning. You either showed up on campus or passed. Only students with approved health reasons were allowed to stay home. This might be a reason why many did not enroll. My son was a sophomore that year and he is so glad the school had this policy. He is one of the very few students in the world that had a semi normal college experience that year.

That explains the 43%. ND has a pretty stable yield rate (and a pretty high one for an EA school). There may be a lower yield from international students this year, but since ND has a relatively low % of international undergrads (8%), I wouldn't expect high WL acceptance numbers again.
