Your go to plumber for drain clog?

Anonymous
Hello…need some advice/recommendations about clogged kitchen sink. My go to service was at my house on Saturday and supposedly snaked it but now I have same problem as before.

I’m in Northern VA/Arlington. Who is your go to plumbing service to fix things like this? Don’t/can’t spend a lot of money right now…

Call them back again. They will do it for free if reclogged in that short of a time period.

Unless you are using a garbage disposal? Nobody with any plumbing knowledge uses those things anymore.

Do you put stuff in your garbage disposal? Rice? Don’t put anything down there.

No. Kitchen drain lines are usually about 2" diameter, and easily clog. There's already tons of grease/fats being added every time you wash dishes, plus bits of food that aren't wiped off before washing. That fat cools even when washing with very hot water, and will start to collect about 10 to 20ft down the line, often before it enters the 4" diameter main pipes.

Grinding up food and dumping that into the mix just adds aggregate to cement, so to speak. Coffee grounds, egg shells, etc. are the worst, as they form a cement type mixture when they hit the fatty pipe area.

Flush excess food down the toilet instead if you have to dispose of food that cannot be composted or fed as scraps to an animal. Best to just clean one's plate when eating. Parents never let us leave food on a plate uneaten.

That’s what my plumber told me. I now have a strainer.

No. Plumber once told me garbage disposals are good for two things:
1. Making money for companies that sell garbage disposals, and
2. Making money for plumbers.

DP here. Yes, don't use garbage disposal. I have a drain strainer that get cleaned all the time to catch all the food debris in the sink. I do not let any rice, quinoa, pea get into the dishwasher or the sink.
