Best bike for the city

There are several different types of bikes and I’m not sure which one to buy. It’s for a man in his mid-30s who travels to work in the city. He sometimes bikes home after dark.
Does anyone which bike works best for city biking?

It’s called the Metro bus.

For a city bike, I'd just get a cheap bike that you won't mind if it gets stolen.

You can maybe get a decent used one.

Or if buying new, just get it from a big box store.
