Hummingbirds?

I'm in Moco. Are you seeing any? Is it too early to put out my feeder?

They've been back since Mother's Day here in Olney. I have 2 regular visitors. Put your feeders up!

Be sure to use ONLY plain white sugar at a 20-25% concentration, and boil it for 1 min at least before cooling and filling feeders.

1 cup sugar sucrose.
3 cups distilled water.
Stir and heat to a boil for 1 min stirring occasionally.
Let cool to room temp.
Fill feeders.
Store leftover in refrigerator in NON-Plastic container for up to 2 weeks.

If outside temperatures get over 85F, change the feeder water daily or at least every 2 days to prevent over-fermentation. Drunk hummingbirds are no joke.

NEVER use storebought hummingbird feed. It contains dyes and sometime wrong sweeteners that will damage bird eggs and cause deformations in chicks.

NEVER use plastic feeders, as they heat up and release and offgass toxins that leeches into the water.

We’re in western Fairfax Co. and we saw first hummingbird in early May. Homemade nectar is best, we use 1:4 ratio.

The key is frequent cleaning of feeder in DMV area. Humidity plays havoc on feeders and food.
