Walden Glen vs. Rolling Hills

Anonymous
Not looking for this summer but starting to consider for next year. These are our two closest pools and we want a space where our daughter can have friends close to home to hang out. Facility wise they look similar. Anyone have any experience with either/both? What tips the scale for you?

TIA

I believe RH has a waitlist, but you can of course double check that.

Walden Glen has a much nicer team. Rolling Hill kids show some poor sportsmanship in the past. I know a lot of the families cannot stand their leadership.

Not my experience with RH! We've been against both in the past and both were lovely. (It's been a few years for Walden Glen...)

Second the Rolling Hills comment. We were in their division last year and at relay carnival their 15-18 boys were complete jackasses. In the free relay one of the swimmers swam fly instead of free. It was completely unsportsmanlike like to beat other relays in such a show boat manner.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Rolling Forest or Dominion Hills? I was on deck working that meet and don’t remember that. Also I just checked and they didn't win that event, so why would they be showboating? Our team voted RH for sportsmanship award in both 2024 and 2023.

It was RH. And no they didn't win. They made a mockery of the event. They thought is was hilarious.

A University of Florida swimmer swam fly in the free relay at the SEC meet last year, because it’s faster for the swimmer, not out of mockery. Is there any possibility this kid is faster at fly than free? It could still be funny, even if it’s the fastest the team can go.

I am aware of what is legal freestyle, but something about swimming a completely different stroke when the event is freestyle feels wrong to me

I know the kid who swam it. His butterfly is faster than his freestyle.

Freestyle is any stroke in any manner.

That is a crap move. I would find that unsportsmanlike.

Then it sounds like you aren’t aware of what legal freestyle is if that feels wrong to you.

I'm cool with swimming fly (or breast or back) in a free relay. Now if the swimmer purposely slowed down to let a slower kid catch-up only then to put on the gas..ok, then yeah, I think that behavior qualifies as unsportsmanlike behavior. Or if they kid(s) finish and they are taunting, etc. etc.

How is it unsportsmanlike? You swim your fastest stroke.
