We plan to divide the drive into 2 days— can anyone recommend a nice place to stay overnight?
We don’t mind driving about one hour or so off the interstate. Thanks in advance for any ideas! |
It’s only about 12 hours. Just power thru! |
Savannah is the usual recommendation. |
OP where are you staying in St. Augustine? We are thinking about going on a side trip from Savannah |
Totally unnecessary! |
I can’t imagine adding two hours to this trip! Savannah if you must but you’re so close once you get to Savannah. |
Pooler GA. The exit with the outlet mall. But I agree with others. Once we reached that point, we realized we probably could have gone another 2-3 hours. |
OP here and thank you everyone for the recommendations!
We’ll be staying at a VRBO in Vilano Beach, if anyone has recommendations of things to do. |
Why would you break this drive into two days. |
We have done this drive a few times. The midpoints we have stopped at are Florence, SC and Fayetteville, NC and area around there. Florence has the crappiest hotels so the NC side is better.
For an actual place you want to see, Savannah is about all that's worth visiting. On the way back, we power through though. |
Just do it in one go! It's worth it. We leave around 5am and are usually in Vilano by 5pm |
+1 I’ve done the drive in one day and stopped overnight. I have the Marriott app because that’s where I collect points, and it has a feature where you can look at hotel cost and availability along your route. I just pick a hotel at roughly the time I want to stop and look at the costs and reviews for the hotel in that area. |
Don't stop. Nothing worth stopping for. So much nice to get there. |
We usually stay in Hilton brand hotel in Santee. Much better than the hotels in Florence.
Lots of museums, the Castillo, Alligator Farm and the lighthouse in and near Augustine. We love the State Park on Anastasia Island and there were a couple of good brunch and lunch places in St Augustine Beach |
This. Leave early enough and you can get there in a day. There isn’t much worth stopping for along that stretch of 95. It’s a long stretch of road, but amazingly, there really isn’t much to see. Yes, Savannah is nice, but by that point you’re almost to Florida. |
