Trump humiliated and trying to save face?

Yesterday night Israel struck Iran while nuclear negotiations were still ongoing and scheduled to continue this Sunday between Steve Witcoff and Iranian diplomats.

Trump reiterated many times he wants to avoid conflict and has tried to talk Netanyahu out of striking Iran.

On truth social the day before the strike he said

"We remain committed to a Diplomatic Resolution to the Iran Nuclear Issue!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

and then when asked by reporters the following day about a potential strike by Israel he said,

“I want to have an agreement with Iran. We’re fairly close to an agreement. … As long as I think there is an agreement, I don’t want them going in because that would blow it. Might help it, actually, but also could blow it,” he said when asked about a potential Israeli strike.

Israel bombed Iran despite Trump's repeated intentions and warnings to Israel not too. When the strike occured Marco Rubio sent out a State Dept. message that Isael was acting alone and "unilateral" that the the U.S. was not involved in the decision and for Iran not to atrike U.S. assets.

Today Trump had a different tune. Pretending we green lighted the operation and that he wanted Israel to strike Iran all along and that he gave then warnings.

Is he just trying to save face because Netenyahu and Israel humilated him on the world stage?
