| DH falls under this category as he was a CSRS Fed until retirement and earned no SS credits in his Fed employment. He has about 32 credits from small side jobs and jobs he had as a teenager, but he is not considering those or trying to gain more credits. However, he should now be able to now collect half of my earnings at this point, and all of my earnings should I predecease him. In the online column, Federal Diary, Ed Zurndorfer advises these formally left out people to apply now, which he promptly did. He is apparently being denied. Letter to follow. Any experience with this going forward? Yes, of course we will appeal. |
| What are your ages? Are you receiving OASI benefits? |
70, no |
| I'm just asking because this act was just repealed late last year and apparently this group of filers will be the first to test this out. Kind of confused as to why there would be any denial since the repeal of this law was designed specifically for people who weren't able to gain SS in their jobs, like Fed employees under the old system. Curious if others have also found roadblocks. It's hardly a lot of $$ here, but hey, it's something. |

Fairness Act. GPO, not WEP, for spousal. Can ask your Rep or Senator for help. |

Update from OP: Yes, CSRS retirees, do indeed receive SS now either based on their own credits if they have enough or their spouse's earnings, which would be half of what their spouse receives and all of it should spouse die.
We worked it out. It was just a error. So, if you are a retired CSRS fed-' apply, but do it by calling, not online in this case. |
