PSAT vs sat

How much did your kids score on each? How strong is the correlation?

Re psat 10th grade: how different was the score from psat 11 grade? Any stories of lower scores the second time around?

It’s really a very nuanced answer, depending on each individuals strength and weaknesses, but for any kid who typically does well academically, but has any level of anxiety the PSAT the first time can really throw them off, particularly in the math section with the progressive nature of the test. Most kids with those type of “issues” do much better the second time taking it.

Thanks. Wouldn’t the verbal section be progressive as well?

Both sections are progressive for psat and SAT.
My kid got 14901520 on psat, which is likely good enough for NMSF, but cannot get above 1490 on SAT.

Can’t s/he combine scores?

I think PSAT caps out at 1520 so you would expect a higher score on the SAT

Yes, the psat is out of 1520, whereas the cast is out of 1600.

If the kid got 1520 on the psat, did he get 1600 on the sat? Or whatever corresponding score.

My kid (rising senior) scored 1370 on the PSAT in 10th, 1490 on the PSAT in 11th and then 1550 on the March SAT.
