I’m sitting on a DE beach and I’ve heard the sonic boom noise typical of military jets for the last 30 mins (off and on). Everyone keeps looking up but you can’t actually see any jets.
I’m assuming it’s extra security or maybe practice? I’m a lifelong DE beachgoer and I’ve never noticed this before. Posting here in case a DC person in the know might shed some light on what we are hearing…and why. |
There is a military parade happening in DC tomorrow in case you haven’t heard… |
Yes, from her perch on Biden Beach, OP is blissfully unaware of activities concerning the parade. |
um, that’s literally why I posted…wondering if it’s extra security (think: enforcing a no fly zone). Anyway, two jets just flew by at high speed along the shoreline—very low and visible. Google also says that fighter jets enforce a no fly zone when Biden is at the beach. Ftr, we are in Fenwick (nowhere near Biden). But it was the periodic sonic boom where you couldn’t actually see the jets that was unnerving. It went on for nearly an hour periodically. |
Maybe they're doing a last round of practice, OP. The sky above DC is extremely regulated, so they probably need to go much further out. |
No, it’s not practice runs. I’ve been in OC when they practice for the air show. This is very different…which is why I posted. |
Flying by again. Can’t see them, but can hear them. |
OCMD air show this weekend.
Practice runs. |
