last days of school...anyone going?

Anonymous
My high school student (freshman) is convinced "no one is going". I assume they'll just be watching movies anyway, but curious if most kids will not bother to show up on Monday and Tuesday next week...

What’s the alternative for your student?

My DC has a job and could work those days. Or hang out with friends in other districts who have been out of school already for weeks. Both options seem better than watching movies in classrooms, but I also don't want excessive absences and they would be unexcused unless the student is "sick". Seems like this happens every year as the DCPS calendar stretches well into June. And I just realized the last day is actually Wednesday...

yeah, super frustrating. they changed the schedule but never updated the PDF, so despite the fact that I frequently bring up the PDF directly the last day note is only on a landing page. so now kiddo has a mid-day dentist appointment and i get to take them back for two hours.

fun times.

No one has been out of school for weeks in the DMV. I teach in NOVA and everyone got out last week or in Arlington this week. Montgomery county finished today. PG county was last week. Send your kid or don’t. Teachers don’t care. But DCPS kids aren’t suffering longer than local counterparts.

Why not just keep them home after?

They actually did update the PDF. My guess is that you keep reopening a previously downloaded copy (since the direct link is a PDF download not a hosted site) and you didn't realize. Go to the main page and download the calendar again and you'll see that it's been changed.
