I received an unsolicited credit report from Experian in the mail. Most of the information was correct but it contained my wrong birth year. Also, it listed my credit score as 850. While my credit score is 800+, I wouldn't expect it to be 850. Other credit agencies have it about 30 points lower, including Mission Credit that my bank uses and is on my banking app.
I called the number on the Experian report and the system immediately asked for my full SSN. I tried the online Experian and it has my correct information in the system but when I went to create an account, the system froze and couldn't process my request. It all seems weird. Am I overthinking? |

I don’t think you’re overthinking. I’d be very cautious with your personal info.
I’d ignore any information on the paper you received. I would contact Experian via the listed contact info on their website. I would also pull your (free) reports from annualcreditreport.com. |
| And to add…you should freeze your credit with all three credit agencies. You can easily unfreeze when you want to open a line of credit. |
| Please tell me you didn't call the number on the piece of paper that came in the mail and give them your SSN. |
OP here. No, I didn’t. But it’s disconcerting that the letter had so much detail on me. |
| You were being phished by what you got in the mail. |
| Most of our lives are out there on the web |
| Probably some poorly thought out marketing initiative by Experian. |
Did you google the number on the report to see what may come up? |
