4700 to replace heat pump coil?

We have a 6-year old Carrier Infinity heat pump that has been dripping condensate into the dripping pan whenever the AC is running. It is not minor, the dripping is pretty much constant. We had a guy have a look at it and he said that the bottom two coils are not sweating which is why the water falls straight down instead where it is supposed to go. He suggested to replace the entire coil and quoted us $4700. He also suggested to run the fan continuously, which should help with the problem. We tried and it did the exact opposite, the water actually accumulated much faster, so I have obviously some hesitations trusting his advice. Shall we go ahead with the replacement or shall we get another opinion? Or just keep vacuuming the water out of the pan during the summer (we are normally gone half of the summer anyway) and wait for the system to die and then replace?

So heat pump “breaks” right out of warranty? Maybe, but color me skeptical. I would get second opinion. Look for smaller independently owned HVAC tech.

Get second opinion and cost to replace the whole unit. Those things last 10 years usually.

We had issues with our AC motor/blower. Broke a year out of warranty. First tech who we had our maintenance plan with quoted $3,200 to replace. We went with another and paid $1,100 for parts and labor. This included thoroughly cleaning everything he had access to while the blower was taken out.

Moral of the story, get multiple quotes. We could probably saved more if we had more time to quote around.
