College options for average TJ students

Where would a student with 3.5 unweighted gpa with a reasonably heavy load go?

Ask your student where they are interested in attending and look at those schools online. Check the school provided website that lets kids know what schools are commonly accepted for their grades and the like.

There are probably a good number of options out there.

I don’t know what to say. It’s a hypothetical, but I’m assuming a good conversion including honors and aps would be 4.2

It was not a deciding factor. There were stories that a 4.4 weighted GPA in TJ makes the cut for UVA however there were also stories that TJ kid with 4.2 GPA went to yale and other with 4.65 GPA got rejected by UVA.

W&M, GMU, Penn State, Pitt, VCU have been the traditional destinations for the bottom half.

If its 4.2 and reasonably rigorous courses - VT, Purdue and even UMD are in play for a TJ kid.

Based in Naviance plenty of kids get in with a 4.2 gpa and 1520 or so SAT
