Traveling to Newport, RI later this summer/early fall and looking for hotel recs within walking distance to downtown. Would love ocean view but not mandatory for nice, clean hotel. Any recs are greatly appreciated. Thank you! |
The downtown isn’t that big and is not on the Ocean it is on the harbor side. I don’t think there are any hotels with ocean views.
You could stay a little further south in watch hill, if your budget allows, at the Ocean House. |
You can see which hotels have harbor views from the map - Goat Island, Marriott, Hammond, 41 North, etc. My favorite is the Viking for a hotel (has spa, pool and great rooftop bar) or Hydrangea House for a B&B (across the street from Viking). Both are just up the block from Thames. Have a great time! |
Yeah not many hotels in the small downtown area unless a Bed a breakfast type place. We have always stayed a few miles out. |

Thank you! Appreciate your suggestions |
We've stayed at Gilded and the Attwater, part of the Lark hotels. Both were great and it looks like they added a third. |
I had a really nice stay at the Attwater and can recommend if you want a smaller, boutique BnB feel. |
We stayed at a Marriott hotel in “downtown” Newport. It was a nice, clean hotel and centrally located. I’d stay there again. |
Gardiner House is new and lovely right downtown. |
We stayed at Gilded 2 years ago. Very nice if you like BandBs (we do) and great breakfast. But definitely a town location a few blocks from the harbor. We’ve stayed at several Lark hotels and like their concept. |
I've stayed twice at the Marriott on the harbor. It's centrally located and a short walk to downtown. |
Great, appreciate the wonderful recs. |
Castle Hill inn is gorgeous |
This plus 10000. I have stayed there in the spring summer and fall and it’s been great every time. |
