Surgery for CSF leak questions

Anonymous
My husband had a discectomy last week and as a result has a csf leak, which looks like it will require further surgery. I believe it’s called a blood patch procedure? I’m trying not to panic but this ‘fix’ will require an overnight stay in the hospital, which the other surgery did not require.
Does anyone have any calming words or other words of wisdom/advice from someone that has been through this?

A blood patch is not a surgery. It’s just a spinal tap where they inject some of your own blood into the epidural space where it circulates and “finds” the hole/tear and then seals it off by natural clotting mechanisms. The only reason he would have to stay overnight is bc you’re supposed to lie down for several hours after the procedure. And they also probably want to check in the morning and see if it works. It’s not a big deal at all.
