Painting my rowhouse

Anonymous
My DC row house was painted before I bought it and I wish it hadn’t been. I’d prefer the original red brick. It’s time to do something but I’m loath to repaint.

Has anyone done something else? Unpainted 100+ year old brick? I imagine it would be messy, time consuming, and expensive with lots of repointing required.

I quite like the whitewashed red brick look but not sure how that’s done if it was previously painted.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s already been down this road!
