We don’t want to do anything too fancy. Mostly we just want to install new cabinets, countertops, new floor, and maybe some additional cabinetry along a currently blank wall. Not looking to relocate or even update appliances or plumbing. We are very budget conscious. What kind of expense are we looking at? |
$60k |
We paid about $25k in 2023 for a condo kitchen remodel (demo, cabinets, countertops, backsplash, paint, sink, faucet, garbage disposal, etc). Not sure if tariffs have affected such costs. |
Doesn't sound like anything structural. Depends on how much the cabinets are and who you get to install. |
Too many variables to guess a price for you. How big is your kitchen? How many cabinets? What quality/look of cabinets? What kind of countertop? Floor?
We just did a remodel of kitchen and my tip is to get many bids. Our bids varied wildly. Look for smaller independent contractors or kitchen bath shop. I would not go through big box store as they have many different contractors and you don’t know who you’ll get. Also, work with a kitchen designer. These can be free if you work though cabinets supplier. The designer helps maximize space and can improve your existing layout at minimal price difference. |
We spent 300k easily, but our kitchen is quite large and this included the butler's pantry/washroom too. |
Cabinets alone are going to affect your price. Ikea is far different from even semi-custom to the tune of tens of thousands. Laminate is very different than refinishing hardwood. But... having recently priced this out, it's probably going to cost more than you're thinking. |
How many cabinets? How much countertop? What kind of countertop? What kind of floor? Hard to give you an estimate with no information. |
Without knowing the size of your kitchen, I'll say $100k. Cabinets are very expensive, even if you do semi-custom vs custom.
We just spent $150k and our kitchen isn't even that big. |
Price out materials and then double that number to account for labor costs. |
What if we just wanted to replace doors? |
Check out ikea cabinets. But not all contractors will assemble them. We assembled them ourselves and have nice cabinets for about 3k. We are located in NW DC and house is ~1.1m |
The new electrical panel alone might be $5000+. Will require upgrade.
We paid $45,000 for our medium kitchen, with no island, for new large tile floors (not vinyl), replacing wood subflooring, cabinets, quartz, including an extra quartz counter with stools, quartz backsplash, sink, knobs and handles, and paint. We did buy a $1700 drawer microwave too. |
That would make things considerably cheaper because you do not need to demo old cabinets and dispose of them plus buy and install new ones. You can order the doors online and install them yourself for additional savings. |
