Self Studying

Which schools allow students register to take an AP exam if they self studied? Asking for the 2025-2026 school year.

I think Wilson would.

Are you asking where you can enroll to take the exam?

Or are you asking if DCPS will pay the registration fee?

I would ask this on the homeschooling forum. They would know the details of navigating this.

The only problem is they make exceptions for homeschooled kids, but I don't know the process of someone enrolled at a high school that offers the AP class, doesn't take the class, but still wants to take the test.

Assuming this is what OP is asking.

Where is your child enrolled?

I don’t think you need to take the ap class to take the test.

Private school that doesn't offer APs.

Both.

Absolutely the college board will let you take the test. They don't care how you prepared.

Would DCPS pay for it? I don't know. I would tend to think know, but then they pay for students who are completely unprepared despite taking the class, so why not pay for someone motivated?

Why in the world would DCPS pay for it if your kid goes to private school?

Different poster whose kids attend a public school: because they are taxpayers too.

What do you mean?

Reach out to schools in DC and MOCO. Some schools will administer to kids not enrolled if they pay for the exam, some will not. Don’t forget that AP testing is a logistical nightmare so many schools don’t have the capacity to take on more than their students.
