Update: Trump admin reverses course on 4 y.o. girl who needs lifesaving care in US

Anonymous
Remember the 4 y.o. girl from Mexico who has been receiving lifesaving care in the US for short bowel syndrome and whose humanitarian parole was revoked by the government? It looks like the government IS sometimes sensitive to criticism and, when confronted, DOES sometimes relent.

In April, the government had abruptly revoked the family’s humanitarian parole without giving them a reason. The move triggered swift international outrage and prompted 38 Democratic members of Congress to send a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem urging her to reverse the decision.

Then on Tuesday, Vargas received a notice from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services: The family had been granted another year of parole.

Good news. But this is another illustration of our government behaving in an arbitrary and capricious manner rather than with regularity.

The important lesson here is that the TACO and his merry band of misfits will stand down when challenged.

She’ll be back in a year complaining it still isn’t fair that she can’t stay here forever for free. Despite knowing over and over again this is temporary.

Yeah, she’ll probably be pretty sad as a 5yo that she’s being uprooted from the place that kept her healthy. She might even cry. The entitlement of some children, sheesh. /s

So the Trump administration wants this kind of press again? I doubt it.

Well they only gave her a year. Just like she got from Biden a year ago. Her status has always been temporary, despite her “shock” at having temporary status. The same as all the others with temporary status for political or humanitarian reasons. It’s right there in the name. Temporary.

Why so much hate for a sick child? Be grateful it’s not your kid. Get some sunshine today.

Of course individually most compassionate people want her to stay.

Collectively speaking, she spend an entire year - 12 months in a Children's Hospital in San Diego starting the day she arrived. According to an article in the Los Angeles Times Medi-cal (California's medicaid program for poor) has paid for her treatment. I can't even imagine how many millions a year long stay in a hospital costs. She now also has a nurse the school district pays for who goes to her school to administer the feeding treatment.

Now multiply that with countless other people arriving and also needing intensive medical treatments, surgeries, hospital stays etc. that California taxpayers are paying for. Everyone who crosses into CA are getting free healthcare if they are poor whether it is from Mississippi, Nevada or Timbuktu.

CA state spending on Medi-Cal has more than doubled since 2017 and is now projected to cost $76.8 billion in the 2024-25 budget year. Earlier this year lawmakers approved an extra $6 billion for unexpected Medi-Cal costs resulting from extending medi-cal to undocumented adults.

A handful of states like CA, Oregon, and Minnesota can't afford to subsidize free healthcare for everyone either from out of state or out of the country.

People talk about moving to more compassionate countries like Canada or Australia. Well neither country would have admitted her. They don't allow people who will become burdens on their healthcare system to stay.

We can’t take care of all the sick children in the world. We don’t even take care of all US sick people. It’s not sustainable. Surprised mom hasn’t had an anchor baby yet.

Wouldn’t it be great if, instead of rewarding the richest people in the world by stealing from the poor and middle class, we used the money for healthcare? What if we taxed the hyperwealthy instead of giving them more money? What if we weren’t a country they full of idiots supporting the big theft bill and were people that advocated for ourselves, people that wouldn’t let a toddler tell us there is no money while having the worlds most expensive birthday parade? What if we didn’t volunteer to sell ourselves out every day to the scum of the Earth GOP? To people that defund science that might lead to better, cheaper healthcare?

Too bad a lot of you are f@cking idiots that voted for Trump.

You are extremely callous and stupid to be trying to create a political atmosphere in which Trump cannot reverse course for good reasons without a troglodyte like you mocking him for it.
